Fenghuang - Travel then riverside

When we arrive in Yichang we are clearly off of the beaten backpacker track. We are not off the track, for there are millions of local Chinese around us, but there are not other foreigners around. Big city, fancy hotel, break from road, used gym twice, 1:30 train to Jishou, lucky evening bus to Fenghuang, girls helped us find cheap room, beautiful old city (new city outside), photographers, took it easy, two nights, bus back to Jishou----ever going to get to leave Jishou?

It is time to go eat dinner now, more to come. We are almost caught up with China entries.

I love the stories of China, and can't wait to hear about Laos and Thailand! It all brings back memories of my time in India and all of our adventures from our world trip. I wish we could see everything you are, but at least this blog can give us a glimpse of it. We'll have to somehow find a way to see and hear everything when you get back. Unfortunately, we have actually moved to NY since you left, but we will find someway to catch up with you. Soak it all in and enjoy every minute!

Hi Tommy and Kristin!
I just wanted to tell you that your adventures and your pleasant attitude about all the SURPRISES that come with traveling are just lovely to read about. I don't know that Merlefest will be as stellar without you both...there is a huge hole where you would normally be, but we know you are out really living a great life full of cool experiences. Richard and Jen gave us a copy of their Avett concert from their wedding (Tommy's recording) and it brought a flood of great memories. We certainly miss you, think of you lots, wonder what is happening (good thing we have your blog) to you, and look forward to a reunion party, Cleveland style!

With much love, Melissa and Phillip

Isn't Fenghuang an amazing place? I spent a few days there last month (my first time in China) and loved it. If you're interested, check out some pictures on my blog - let me know what you think.
